Onions are in the same plant family as garlic, and have similar health benefits. Although very beneficial for your health, onions are generally not as potent as garlic, since they contain only one quarter the level of sulfur compounds found in garlic.

Onions contain a higher level of the flavonoid quercetin than any other fruit or vegetable. Quercetin helps reduce body fat via a number of different mechanisms. It reduces leptin, which is associated with obesity, and also reduces the uptake of glucose by fat cells from the blood, thereby preventing the production and accumulation of fat inside fat cells.

Of particular interest to losing chest fat, onions are widely known to increase testosterone levels by as much as 300%! One particular study found that rats fed onion juice made by putting ordinary supermarket onions into a juicer, had improved sperm quality, and increased levels of testosterone after just 20 days1.
